Benevolent Ministry Statement

The Benevolent Ministry of New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church is dedicated to embodying the love and compassion of Christ by providing support and assistance to those in need within our community. Our mission is to offer relief, hope, and empowerment to individuals and families facing challenges, ensuring that every person experiences the care and support they need to thrive. Through acts of service, we strive to reflect God’s grace, promote dignity, and foster resilience.

Benevolent Ministry Guidelines:

  • Assistance is available to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, crisis, or other urgent needs.
  • Applicants must be members of New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church or reside within the local community.
  • Applicants must complete a formal application detailing their needs, circumstances, and requested assistance.
  • Applications are reviewed by the Benevolent Ministry Committee on a weekly basis.
  • Financial assistance for necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, and medical expenses.
  • Non-financial support including counseling, spiritual guidance, and referrals to other community resources.
  • The amount of financial assistance provided is subject to budget availability and is determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • Emergency funds are reserved for urgent, unforeseen situations requiring immediate support.
  • All applicant information and assistance provided are kept strictly confidential.
  • The dignity and privacy of individuals seeking help are of utmost importance.
  • Recipients of assistance are encouraged to participate in follow-up meetings to assess their ongoing needs and progress.
  • Accountability measures include providing receipts or documentation of how funds were used.
  • Regular reports on the ministry’s activities and financial status will be shared with the church

Resources in Dekalb County

DEAM provides emergency food and basic health supplies to qualifying residents. Depending on food pantry stocks, DEAM can generally give out bags of groceries and supplies that will provide three nutritious meals/day for three days for all qualifying family members once per month.

Basic health supplies include soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, feminine hygiene supplies and diapers, and are dependent on current pantry supply.

Eligibility: The services are provided to all qualifying residents without regard to race, gender, age, religion or sexual or orientation. Due to limited financial resources, unfortunately it is not always possible to help all qualifying residents. 

All clients must apply in-person at the main DEAM office at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Monday–Friday 9:00-11:30 AM before receiving food.

Salvation Army Financial Emergency Services Centers – The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Command

Salvation Army Financial Emergency Services each day throughout Metro Atlanta, provides emergency and life-sustaining assistance with food, clothing, rent/mortgage, utilities, school supplies and furniture to individuals and families facing a financial crisis.

Veterans Center Incorporated

Food and Clothing

Food Pantry and Clothes Closet – Sarah’s Closet & Comprehensive Services

Through its Client-Closet – SCCS not only provides clients with access to only fresh and whole foods, but families are also able to choose from a number of “gently used” donated clothing items from coats, shoes, dresses, pants, etc. for the entire family. SCCS clients may participate in the Food Pantry and Clothing once every 8 weeks.

Based on the number of individuals in your household, you will need to provide identification for each person/child residing in your household. See list of acceptable documentation below:

Mom’s Meals Nourish Care Long Term Services and Support/Home and Community Based Services Program provides Home Delivered Meals to the elderly, disabled, and individuals in poor health, who are eligible for economic assistance through Medicaid Waiver or other government-funded nutrition programs.

Georgia Food Stamps (SNAP) – Georgia Division of Family and Children Services

The Georgia Food Stamp Program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is a federally funded program that provides monthly benefits to low-income households to help pay for the cost of food.

Eligibility: Eligibility and benefit amounts are determined by your income, resources, and family size. To apply for benefits, the head of household, a household member, or authorized person representing the household may complete an application for assistance. An application can be received from your local County Department of Family and Children Services or from the DHS website, After your application is filed, you are a member of your household must participate in a phone interview conducted by a case manager at DFCS.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) 

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program is a federally funded health and nutrition program for infants and children age 1 to 5 years (including foster children), pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers (up to 1 year), and postpartum women (up to 6 months). WIC serves women, infants, and children in families with income at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level or enrolled in Medicaid; and who are at risk for nutritional deficiencies.

Eligibility: Must be a low income pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum woman or low-income parent or guardian who is the sole provider of children under age five who are at nutritional risk.

Critical Financial Assistance – Operation Homefront 

The Critical Assistance program assists military families during difficult times by providing food assistance, auto and home repair, vision care, travel, transportation, moving assistance, essential home items, and rent-free transitional housing for wounded veterans and their families.

Eligibility: If you need financial assistance, are active duty, deployed, a veteran, or are a wounded, ill or injured service member and meet our criteria, you may be eligible for assistance.

HUD PUBLIC Housing Program – Housing Authority of DeKalb County

Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly. And people with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family houses to high-rise apartments for elderly families. Programs and services administered by the authority include the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program, veterans housing assistance, resident support services, and multi-family tax exempt bonds. In addition, the Housing Authority has established partnerships with local agencies and affiliates to provide support services to our residents and the DeKalb community at large.

Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers – Housing Authority of the City of Decatur, Georgia

The Housing Choice Vouchers program is the federal government’s major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and people with disabilities to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments. The participant is free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects. Housing choice vouchers are administered locally by public housing agencies (PHAs).

Residential Care – Self-Reliance Guidance Program- Positive Growth, Inc 

Positive Growth, Inc. Self-Reliance Guidance Program (SRGP) is a Transitional Living Program designed to promote self-sufficiency and independence for young adults who have transitioned through the foster care system or have been terminated by the foster care system and/or are considered certified homeless. Our Self-Reliance Guidance provides supportive and supervised housing for young adults who cannot live safely with a parent or relative and who have no other stable living arrangement. We provide young adults with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to become self-sufficient.

Eligibility: Cannot actively be using or abusing drugs and or alcohol. Must attend school or be employed full/part-time. Participants cannot have any adult violent criminal history within two prior years.

Homeless prevention provides a continuum of services aimed at addressing issues that impede clients from becoming self-sufficient and which, if not addressed, could eventually lead to eviction and homelessness. Services include case management, crisis counseling, information and referral, employment assistance, and financial assistance. Financial assistance is used to pay past-due rent to prevent eviction. Project Take Charge

Decatur Cooperative Ministry provides housing programs to homeless families and provides homelessness prevention programs to very low-income seniors, Veterans and households who are at imminent risk of losing their housing.

Project Take Charge helps homeless individuals as well as DeKalb County residents who are in danger of eviction, foreclosure, or disconnection of utility service.

Services offered include:

  • Emergency assistance with rent, mortgage, utilities, and food
  • Case management
  • Financial
  • Food through a food pantry and operates two food cooperatives to offer permanent food security to selected low-income households
  • Financial assistance

 

Eligibility: You must be a resident of DeKalb County, Georgia. You must have a regular and verifiable source of income that can help you meet monthly expenses after receiving financial assistance. If you are in danger of eviction, you must have a late notice or dispossessory warrant from the DeKalb County Court. If you are in danger of utility cut-off, you must have a cut-off notice, Limited funds are available for mortgage assistance from time to time, and a letter from your mortgage company stating plans to foreclose is required in order to be considered for this type of assistance. You must be willing and able to attend the three-part financial management education class. You can choose between morning and evening sessions. Classes are held every other week. You must be willing to speak with a project Take Charge case manager at least once a month for 90 days to discuss your progress and challenges in meeting your goals for financial stability.
